Antinomy (2004)
Antinomy is the necessity of contradictions, the force that fastens life together and thrusts it apart. In her first full length solo album, Yael weaves together a collection of original songs that is refreshing, perceptive, and haunting. Antinomy speaks of the turbulence that life ignites between our personal truths and the stories unfolding around us. The songs were inspired by her travels over the past four years, and the contradictions that those travels, and interim homes, revealed. The cover photograph, by Jeremy Williams is a close-up shot of a massive old driftwood log parked at the edge of Kits beach in Vancouver. The back cover, captured the city's early spring in all its fragrant and colourful glory (design by Rita Parada). Antinomy was recorded live in a Vancouver church and at SOS Studios and produced by Yael with assistance from Sam Ryan and Adrian Lock. Yael is backed by some of Vancouver's finest musicians including: Christina Zaenker (cello), Michael-Owen Liston (upright bass), Aaron Joyce (slide guitar), Jesse Zubot (Zubot and Dawson), Hamish Thomson (the Hermit), Allison Russell (Po'Girl) and more.
